Skrillex's Contribution to Music

The artist I chose to do a little bit of research on from the music module was Skrillex. Skrillex is an American DJ and producer from Northeast Los Angeles. First performing as a DJ by the name of Sonny Moore (his real name), Moore joined the Alternative press to work with other groups such as a famous pop-punk band All Time Low. In 2007 he began his solo career, and anticipated his debut album to be published in 2009. However, in late 2009 he ditched the album and began performing under the artist name "Skrillex", where he released the EP "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites", which is arguably one of his now most popularly known pieces of work. My personal favorite from his early works is his song "Cinema", which I myself have made several remixes to for class projects throughout my educational career. Skrillex gave a huge breath of life into what is now known as electronic dance music, influencing many of today's modern DJs. Winning over 8 Grammy awards...

Held Hostage by Technology; Video Performance

https://youtu.be/4pnuypxdKNY This is my final video performance titled "Held Hostage by Technology". My roommate wearing the Apple logo sweatshirt represents all technology. I emerge from the trunk tangled in wires, and am guided by technology through the halls, ultimately to my final cell. The entire trip, I am too much focused on what is on the screen in front of me, and am unable to see all of the chaotic happenings behind me.

Collage Piece; Heart and "Sole"

Image
For my collage piece, it took me a while to decide what I wanted to create. After a while, the thought came to me to make my collage on top of my guitar, because music is one of my favorite things in the world. To make this collage, I used scanned pictures of my eyes at the top of the guitar neck to make it as if the guitar was alive. I used scans of my fingers all along the frets to indicate the actual playing of the guitar. The base of the guitar was filled with various scans of the sole of my foot, and my hands in different positions, one of them being in a heart in the center. This represents the heart and soul (sole), musicians pour into the work they create.

Dido and Aeneas Essay

Dido and Aeneas Dido and Aeneas is an opera written by Henry Purcell in the late 1600’s. Composed of three acts, this dramatic performance depicts a lonely woman, Dido, whom attempts to cure her sadness with a marriage between herself and a Trojan man named Aeneas. However, a powerful sorceress whom is plotting to destroy the city of Carthage interferes with the wedding. The sorceress convinces Aeneas to sail to Italy instead of marrying Dido. Aeneas at the end of the opera changes his mind and claims to Dido that he will instead stay with her instead of departing, however Dido casts him away for even considering leaving. The ending results with Dido’s life slowly coming to an end. This opera was not filmed as a traditional opera from one point of view on a stage but was filmed as if it were a movie. Within the production itself, the scenery used was very elaborate, and really set the theme for the entire show. Set in an elegant building, with people gathered around in expensive lo...

Stop Motion Animation

I created this stop motion animation using Stop Motion Studio on my Apply Iphone 8. Using a skateboard, I created the sense of motion throughout this short film using 174 frames. My phone was set up on a tripod, and photos were taken by my roommate. This film exhibits the idea that you can have fun anywhere, and with anything, with a little imagination.
